Siona Lodge Cuyabeno Amazon Tour – From $420 p.p.

The Siona Amazon Lodge is very idyllically situated in one of the last unspoiled native jungles in the Amazon Rainforest, the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve in Ecuador was founded in July 1979 and protects 603.380 square kilometres (2,329.7 sq mi) of unique and pristine rainforest. This positive step forward towards the preservation of part of the Amazon River Basin has allowed us to develop our lodge around the idea of low impact eco-tourism. The Siona Amazon Lodge is the smallest lodge in the Cuyabeno Reserve, which decreases her impact and makes your stay in the rainforest a more intimate experience. Our hope is that, by exposing you to the untouched natural beauty surrounding the lodge, you will understand and share that these resources should be enjoyed and preserved for future generations to come.

Full itinerary of this Amazon tour:

Day 1: Lago Agrio – Cuyabeno Amazon Tour – Siona Lodge
We meet in Lago Agrio at the airport or at Hotel Planeta Azul. A representative from the Siona Lodge will pick you up to start the tour with a transfer to the Cuyabeno River. Box lunch in the route ..
Upon arrival at the Cuyabeno River our Naturalist Guide will give information about the Cuyabeno Reserve, important recommendations and other tips to begin the two hours navigation over the Cuyabeno River to Laguna Grande (The Big Lagoon), where the Siona Lodge is located on its shore.
Along the river you will find several animal species in its natural habitat, including monkeys, toucans, parrots, colorful insects, snakes and the exuberant Amazonian vegetation.
After arrival at the lodge and and check in there is time to relax.
Before dinner we enjoy an evening walk in the primary rainforest to observe amphibians and reptiles for about one hour.
Return to the lodge for a welcome cocktail at sunset and dinner after!

Day 2: Community visit, wildlife spotting and searching for Cayman
After breakfast, we will depart to the Indigenous Siona Community of Puerto Bolivar, the largest ethnic group in the Cuyabeno Amazon Reserve. During this tour you will learn more about their customs , traditions and current way of life. You will be able to help with the preparation of the Casabe . This is a local dish made of yucca (carbohydrates) and is the principal feed of the community.
It takes about 2 hours of navigation downstream to get there. Along the way it will be possible to admire the existing fauna along the Rio Cuyabeno such as: birds, monkeys, snakes, pink dolphins, tortoises and many others. A visit to the Shaman, is also included. This is a full day excursion with Lunch in the Community. Return to the lodge. Dinner at the lodge
During an evening tour we will use big flashlights to search for Caymans. Laying in deep in the water, their eyes will light up red right above the surface in the light of our flashlights.

Day 3: Hiking through the Rainforest and navigating Laguna Grande
After breakfast we will hike for 3 to 5 hours (depending on the weather and group) deep into the primary rainforest. From close by you will be able to explore the beautiful and complex tropical ecosystem. When paying attention and with some luck, you will find a great variety of species of plants, trees and animal life. Lunch back at the lodge.
In the afternoon we will navigate Laguna Grande, to enjoy the surrounding of the lake and wait for a very special sunset. Optional you can decide to swim in the lake.

Day 4: Amazon tour inclusive visiting the Canangueno Lagoon
After breakfast we will bring a visit to Canangueno Lagoon for bird watching. We will travel over the water by paddling in local canoes.
In the afternoon we will enjoy another interesting hike through the impressive Rainforest.
Dinner at the Siona Lodge.

Day 5: Cuyabeno Amazon Tour – Lago Agrio
Early in the morning before breakfast, you can decide to join a bird watching excursion.
Breakfast in the Amazon and transfer to the airport or the center of Lago Agrio to take your flight or the tourist bus from Ecuador Treasure back to Quito.

Note 1: The itinerary above is a good indication of the general 5-days Amazon tour, but the final itinerary is always subjected to (unpredictable) local (weather) circumstances.

Note 2: For people who have less time, it is also possible to make this tour one day shorter. The itinerary from day 4 will then be taken out of the program. The price is then 50 US$ p.p. cheaper.
